Harbour Veterinary Group Notice Board

The Inspectors are back

This is a voluntary scheme set up by our professional governing body the RCVS to set rigorous standards for facilities and clinical practice. It's always a tense time when the Inspectors come around, like our own version of OFSTED, but I am pleased to say that our practice standards have been duly re accredited with flying colours.

Havant, Waterlooville, Southsea and Hayling surgeries have all passed at tier two level and are authorised as training practices for Veterinary Nurses (RVN's)

The Northend practice is reaccredited at Tier 3 level (the highest in the scheme) and is awarded the status of a Veterinary Hospital. We are proud to be the only veterinary practice providing veterinary care at this level in the City.

Accredited practices can be inspected at any time so when you see RCVS acceditation you can be assured of continuous high standards of facilities and in the level of care that we provide.

Details about the practice standards scheme can be found at www.rcvs.org.uk

State of the art Ultrasound

We have recently invested in a new high tech ultrasound scanner at the hospital. This has allowed us to expand and improve diagnostic medicine within the practice. The detail provided by this machine enables us to see the beating hearts of puppies and kittens from four weeks gestation, We can make incredibly detailed structural assessments of major organs including liver, spleen, pancreas, stomach, kidneys, bladder, prostate, uterus, eyes... you get the idea.

The ultrasound scanner is also equipped with Doppler technology which enables the flow of blood to be measured within the heart and major blood vessels elsewhere in the body, as well as taking measurements from the moving heart. All of this can be done in conscious patients and is pain free.

Farewell to Richard Nunn

After 28 years devoted service to the practice, the last seven years as senior partner, Richard is now, hopefully, enjoying a well earned retirement. I have taken over as Clinical Director of the group and would like to thank Richard for his support during the last six months of transition.

I aim to continue to develop our service and to provide the best; most cost effective level of medical and surgical care for the pet population here in Portsmouth. There are a few quite large projects in the pipeline so watch this space for news as things progress.

If you have any comments about any aspect of our service please feel free to contact me at stephen.hanvidge@harbourvets.co.uk
